Aquarium Education Program

Nature by Kayak

Join us for a morning of gentle paddling in the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Preserve for an up-close view of nature.

During this 3-hour off-site program, participants will:

  • Gain a basic knowledge of kayaking
  • Learn from an Aquarium naturalist about plants, birds, geologic features, archaeological sites, marine biology and the fascinating history of the Bay
  • Participate in a two-hour low intensity paddle throughout the Bay’s Wildlife Preserve

Of Special Note:

  • This class does not meet at the Aquarium. If you have not received your confirmation materials with location map and waiver for your trip, please call our Guest Support Center at the RSVP number for instructions and information.
  • Both double and single kayaks are available.
  • Participants should be prepared to get wet and are encouraged to wear water shoes.
  • Do not bring any items on the trip that cannot get wet.
  • We will still kayak under light rain.
  • Winter is the best time for birding, don’t let the cold deter you!
