The Many Faces of Brook the Sea Otter
Brook's innocent look.  | Hugh Ryono

An anthropomorphic look at the expressions of a sea otter

You would think with such a furry face that she wouldn’t be able to display many emotions. However, over the years Brook the sea otter has shown me that her repertoire of facial expressions exceeds that of even the best Oscar-winning actress! This week we’ll take a look at the many faces of Brook the sea otter.

Of all the sea otters at the Aquarium of the Pacific, I’ve known Brook the longest. She’s been at the Aquarium as long as I have, since before the Aquarium opened to the public. Over the years I’ve enjoyed watching her antics, particularly how her face is quite expressive. Though her expressions don’t always match her perceived behaviors or emotions, it’s always fun in my mind to attach an anthropomorphic comment to her face. Take a look at these pictures of Brook and their tongue-in-cheek captions. Have some fun and think of some captions of your own.
