Milo always seems to have a lot of fun playing with the sea lion selfie stick so senior mammalogist Jimmy and I decided to train Troy the harbor seal to take a selfie so that he can join in on the fun of this enrichment behavior. We would use the same training technique we used to train the sea lions to hold the camera rig.

Step one was to get Troy use to the selfie stick.

Step two was for him to get use to holding it by himself.

The next step was holding it in the water toward the eventual goal of having him dive with it down to the viewing tunnel to take a selfie with the people viewing the underwater part of the exhibit.

Check out the video of the early stages of the training and stay tuned to see if Troy will have a drop the mic moment while taking a selfie.
