Five Neat Things To Check Out This Summer At The Aquarium

Need something fun to do this summer? Check out these activities at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

  1. Ever wonder what a snake’s skin feels like? The new program animal presentation in front of the Molina Animal Care Center features an up close and personal look at wildlife. From Tito the porcupine, to Lola the Sulfur Crested Cockatoo, to the numerous other program critters of the Aquarium, including snakes that you can touch, the presentations are highly informative and at times quite entertaining (sometimes Lola actually asks and answers his own questions—”What kind of bird are you?……Sulfur Crested Cockatoo!”).

  2. Help train an otter. This summer selected guests have the opportunity to lend a hand to help train sea otters during presentations at the newly remodeled otter exhibit. Holding shape targets up to the exhibit glass, the otters are being trained to recognize their own particular shape and to go over to the guest holding it. We call these otter training behaviors “A to B’s”.

  3. Kids getting a bit hot? Have them cool off in the play area near Shark Lagoon. Big mock-ups of sharks, fish and squid squirt water out to cool you off on a hot summer day. You might even find a volunteer marine mammal trainer walking through the area just to cool off.

  4. Help out in a Virtual Aquarium food prep room. The interactive video displays in front of the Molina Animal Care Center allow kids and adults to explore how the staff takes care of the animals of the Aquarium. If you check out the sea lion portion of the kiosk you can even help a virtual me prepare vitamins for Parker the sea lion.

  5. Create a downpour. The Aquarium Watershed model is a great way to see what happens when nature leaves the faucet on. It’s educational and fun to watch the water run through a scale model of the rivers and streams of a watershed.

Come on out to the Aquarium this summer and check out these fun activities.

Sounds cool to go there and have fun with my kids. I think this is an interesting idea, and my kids will learn a lot about animals. Looking forward to see Lola. Thanks for the info! Really gave me an idea,
