Avocet and Chicks Under Wing 2019 - popup

Hugh's Aquarium Views Video Number 82

What looks like an eight-legged shorebird in the picture with this blog is actually an American Avocet with three of her five chicks underneath her wings. The long legs of the Avocet give an almost spider-like look to the bird when she is sheltering her equally long-legged chicks.

The Aquarium’s Avocet pair recently hatch five of these extremely adorable chicks. Check out the cute video of a chick trying to find a space under mom and then come on out to the Aquarium of the Pacific to check them out for yourself.
