A tongue in cheek look at the differences
What’s the difference between a seal and a sea lion? Well a sea lion’s selfie would include all his buddies in the picture while a seal’s selfie would be just of itself. A tongue-in-cheek look at the differences between the two pinniped species.

Fin whales, Killer Whales, and our first Grays of the season!
Hello whale lovers! So much has been going on! As you have been reading in the previous blogs, we have been seeing tons of friendly humpback whales and a few blues. Even though the humpbacks, and even some blues, have still been around this month, the real show stealers have been the fin whales! It is common for us to see fin whales closer to shore in the fall since they tend to feed further offshore during the summer months. Just a few days ago, we spotted our first gray whale of the season! Also, meet one of our many amazing naturalists, Jennifer Thompson!

Humpbacks galore and blues too!
The blue whales have still been making some cameo appearances, with around 40 sightings, even though the season has ended. Though we are seeing a few blues still perusing krill, the show stealers have continued to be the humpback whales! Just in the month of October, we had a total of twenty four humpback whale sightings with lots of exciting humpback behavior like tail lobbing and breaching.

Happy October everybody! This month has been flying by and even though we have ended our blue whale tours we are still seeing them! That’s right, the blues are still here and they are not the only stars of the show lately. Humpback whales, several at a time, have been sighted, feeding and being very curious with our boats and our guests on-board.

A sea otter's personal playground
It may be called the BP Sea Otter Exhibit at the Aquarium of the Pacific but to one particular free spirited sea otter it’s her own personal playground that I like to call “Olliewood”. This month marks Ollie the sea otter’s fourth year at the Aquarium.
