Tonic immobility Training
Nicky is a senior aquarist at the Aquarium of the Pacific who loves sharks. Fern is a zebra shark who ruins the stereotype of her kind by being intelligent and gentle around humans. Together they’ve teamed up to show just how wonderful our relationship with sharks can be.

Up close and personal with a sea lion or seal.
Although Parker the sea lion is the star of the popular pinniped encounters at the Aquarium of the Pacific he is not the only animal ambassador from the seal and sea lion exhibit. His understudies, Harpo the sea lion and Shelby the harbor seal are also ready to meet and greet aquarium guests. Each animal brings their own unique style and personality to the session.

Photo-Identifying the Green Sea Turtles in the San Gabriel River
Since 2008 I’ve been photographing the urban green sea turtles in the San Gabriel River. This colony was little known until recently. It is one of Nature’s best kept secrets in Southern California. An Osprey's out of the ordinary fish hunting technique.
One of the benefits of being out in the field recording data on the Green Sea Turtles of the San Gabriel River for NOAA and the Aquarium of the Pacific is that Nature is always putting on a show. This past weekend we were fortunate to witness a rare hunting technique sometimes utilized by Ospreys. Skim Hunting.

Milo the sea lion does a high back flip. Lou the sea turtle glides through the water. Ollie the sea otter enjoys a slide. These are descriptions of some snapshots of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s critters from the past few months.

You know you’ve been an animal care volunteer at the Aquarium of the Pacific for a long time when you can alley-oop a herring to a sea lion better than Chris Paul can alley-oop a basketball to Blake Griffin and can pitch a clam to the paw of a sea otter more accurately than Clayton Kershaw can pitch a baseball to the glove of a catcher. Check out the rest of the just-for-fun look at a decade-and-a-half-worth of experiences of a longtime Aquarium volunteer.
