Going to kindergarten can be loads of fun, even when you’re an adult like me. I greatly enjoy my monthly forays back into the classroom worlds of little children, where I get to see the enthusiasm and lust for learning that one experiences when young.

There are only a few days out of the year where the Aquarium of the Pacific is closed to the public. One of them is Christmas day. However, like working on a farm, people who care for animals can’t all take the whole day off because the fishes, mammals and birds still need to be fed and tended to, so on Christmas day there will be a small cadre of husbandry staff spending the holiday with the critters.

The Aquarium got a visit from some cool (literally) birds as I fed some bat rays and collected plankton straight from the ocean! This doesn’t happen much at all, so I was quite excited.

Meeting People From Other Countries Is a Great Way to Get In Some Practice Speaking Foreign Language | Josie
Many people from various other parts of the world visit the Aquarium of the Pacific regularly, and I’m lucky enough to be able to speak with some of them in their native tongues.

Well, that festive time of year is once again upon us! This time of year is always full of all kinds of celebration and fun, and the holiday season at the Aquarium is no exception. Decorations recently started popping up everywhere, and not just for us humans. Even the animals are getting in on the act!

The real magic first appeared near the end of my seventh year as a volunteer diver at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Magic came in the form of a child, an adorable four year old called Michelangelo.

The reticulate whiptail ray in Shark Lagoon indulges in the best food daily. To keep her from getting fat, her portions are controlled but that does not stop her from trying to eat her roommates’ leftovers.
