My favorite penguin from Brazil has a daughter

Pinniped Encounters at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Up close and personal with a sea lion or seal.

Although Parker the sea lion is the star of the popular pinniped encounters at the Aquarium of the Pacific he is not the only animal ambassador from the seal and sea lion exhibit. His understudies, Harpo the sea lion and Shelby the harbor seal are also ready to meet and greet aquarium guests. Each animal brings their own unique style and personality to the session.

Urban Sea Turtle ID

Photo-Identifying the Green Sea Turtles in the San Gabriel River

Since 2008 I’ve been photographing the urban green sea turtles in the San Gabriel River. This colony was little known until recently. It is one of Nature’s best kept secrets in Southern California. With six years of images of surfacing sea turtles on file we’ve started going through the photos trying to identify individual turtles.

Walking with Penguins at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Penguin Waddle-About

Not old enough to partake in breeding activities the penguin youngsters have been keeping themselves occupied by taking walks around the Aquarium of the Pacific. Check out the video of some of the places at the aquarium they’ve waddled into as they meet sea lions, seals, otters, trout, and guests.

Extinct in the Wild

The Guam Micronesian Kingfisher

It sometimes gives me the chills when I see these beautiful birds during my Aquarium volunteer shift. The Guam Micronesian Kingfisher is extinct in the wild. When I look at them I feel like I’m seeing living ghosts.
