Kindergarten Is Great for People of All Ages | Josie
Going to kindergarten can be loads of fun, even when you’re an adult like me. I greatly enjoy my monthly forays back into the classroom worlds of little children, where I get to see the enthusiasm and lust for learning that one experiences when young.

Meeting People From Other Countries Is a Great Way to Get In Some Practice Speaking Foreign Language | Josie
Many people from various other parts of the world visit the Aquarium of the Pacific regularly, and I’m lucky enough to be able to speak with some of them in their native tongues.

Being an Aquarium 101 Trainer is Great | Josie
Being a part of the Aquarium 101 training team is a great way to meet new volunteers as they begin to learn about the Aquarium, our mission, our animals, and all sorts of other things. Starting in January, we’ll hold one-day sessions instead of the two-day program we’ve held until now; we hope this change will help those who found it difficult to be away from their families on two consecutive Saturdays.

Slower Season Still a Lot of Fun! | Josie
It may be our slower time of year here at the Aquarium of the Pacific, but we still find lots of fun stuff to do since we have so many interesting animals—including an eel that had brain surgery—to discuss with our guests, some of whom don’t speak English. Our volunteers and staff handle these language situations with aplomb, often surprising everyone with their ability to sometimes speak to these guests anyway, in their own language.

Aquarium Committed to “Greening the Institution” | Josie
The Aquarium’s green practices, some of them due to efforts of the Green Team, help make a difference: saving water, electricity, and natural resources.

Hectic Days Are Better Than They Would Appear | Josie
No matter how hectic a day can get, I find I still have a great time while volunteering at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Senior day and the shift that followed-filled with scheduling snafus-were no exception!

Learning About Gulf of California Inhabitants | Josie
With slower times around the Aquarium of the Pacific, now that summer has ended and school groups have not been organized yet, we have more time to catch up on our underwater friends, and I’m working hard to learn all the fish in one of my new favorite habitats, the Gulf of California exhibit.

Stand-Out Moments Make Job Fun and Helping Children Is Rewarding | Josie
Helping children find the groups from which they have separated, answering questions, and seeing people enjoy new experiences are things that happen often at the Aquarium of the Pacific! Seeing those children reunited with the adults with whom they came is rewarding, answering those questions—sometimes the answers resolve bets—is rewarding, and seeing people experience new things make my job at the Aquarium worthwhile and loads of fun.

Sea Squirts and Other Children: Programs for All Ages | Josie
Summer always is a fun time for many, starting with children who attend various day camp programs offered by the Aquarium of the Pacific. But just because summer is ending doesn’t mean that the fun is over too. The educational, fun opportunities for youngsters abound, even during the school year, starting with children still in strollers to those ages 12 and older.

Josie’s Day, Captaining Her Team | Josie
Being a volunteer at the Aquarium of the Pacific is like owning about 12,500 of some of the world’s most glorious and exotic pets!
Even though working as an Exhibit Interpreter and Day Captain for the Education Department can be exhausting, it is a most enjoyable way to tire out; the hours fly by because the pace often is quite hectic.
