Yeah! New Aquarium 101 program went well! | Josie
The volunteer training team launched our first one-day Aquarium 101 session, which despite a few glitches, went quite well, much to our relief and that of our director of Volunteer Services. What a fun day we had, too, energized, as always, by the incredible enthusiasm and interest of our new volunteers.

German Guests Get Private Tour | Josie
Through my blog, I met two of the nicest people, who came from Germany to visit Long Beach for two days before embarking on a cruise to Mexico and Puerto Rico. The day ended with a $20 donation to the Aquarium of the Pacific’s education department.

Kindergarten Is Great for People of All Ages | Josie
Going to kindergarten can be loads of fun, even when you’re an adult like me. I greatly enjoy my monthly forays back into the classroom worlds of little children, where I get to see the enthusiasm and lust for learning that one experiences when young.

Get ready to learn a new language, California’s salty MPAese. On December 6, 2007 Secretary for Resources Mike Chrisman announced that the south coast from Point Conception to the US-Mexican border (an area commonly called the Southern California Bight) would be the next study area in which Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) would be identified as part of the implementation of California’s Marine Life Protection Act Initiative.

Many people from various other parts of the world visit the Aquarium of the Pacific regularly, and I’m lucky enough to be able to speak with some of them in their native tongues.

Being an Aquarium 101 Trainer is Great | Josie
Being a part of the Aquarium 101 training team is a great way to meet new volunteers as they begin to learn about the Aquarium, our mission, our animals, and all sorts of other things. Starting in January, we’ll hold one-day sessions instead of the two-day program we’ve held until now; we hope this change will help those who found it difficult to be away from their families on two consecutive Saturdays.
