An Exciting Encounter with a Ninja Whale | Kera
And breaching baby humpback whales too!
One of the nicknames we have for the minke whales are ninja whales. They’re the whale that pops up once and then disappears. Just last week we had a minke whale come up to the boat and it was far from acting like a ninja. Read on to find out what happened.

Looks like the Cow/Calf Pairs Are Late for Dinner! | Kera
Normally by this time in the season we’re seeing a good amount of cow/calf pairs of gray whales passing by us in Long Beach. This year it seems like they’re a little behind, but the singles and juveniles are still giving us a good show!

A Once in a Lifetime Sighting on the Boat! | Kera
On Saturday January 29, our 3:00 p.m. whale watch boats got quite the sight! While coming up on a gray whale, they noticed very unusual gray whale behavior. The gray whale they had spotted was swimming in circles under the water. They couldn’t see exactly what the whale was doing, but they knew it wasn’t a “normal” gray whale swimming pattern. Read on to find out what they saw next!

The American Cetacean Society Brings us Good News! | Kera
The American Cetacean Society does an annual census of southbound and northbound gray whales off of Point Vicente and it’s official… the first gray whale has been spotted! According to the census, the whale was breaching as well. Hopefully that’s some kind of foreshadowing of what this year will look like.
