The volunteer training team launched our first one-day Aquarium 101 session, which despite a few glitches, went quite well, much to our relief and that of our director of Volunteer Services. What a fun day we had, too, energized, as always, by the incredible enthusiasm and interest of our new volunteers.

Two female and two male American Goldeneyes, (Bucephala clangula Americana) now in quarantine, are destined for the Shorebird Sanctuary ecosystem sometime in January 2008.
As I returned to the Aquarium to resume my volunteering, I discovered that a few things have changed since my last visit!

German Guests Get Private Tour

Through my blog, I met two of the nicest people, who came from Germany to visit Long Beach for two days before embarking on a cruise to Mexico and Puerto Rico. The day ended with a $20 donation to the Aquarium of the Pacific’s education department.
As much as I love writing about animals, I think I’m going to take this blog entry in a different direction. As we get ready to bid farewell to another year, I always like to think back and reflect on year’s past. When I first interviewed to volunteer at the Aquarium, all I could think about was being able to learn about and help care for an awesome collection of animals. What I didn’t count on, however, was the amazing group of dedicated individuals that I would get to work with and learn from!
