Magnificent Fin Whale Feeding | James S.

Magnificent Fin Whale Feeding

While there is so much to enjoy about these magnificent creatures in our local waters, we have recently had the chance to witness lunge feeding from our fin whales. Lunge feeding behavior involves the whales feeding at the very surface of the water, gliding on their side with their jaw peeking out. There have been Risso’s, bottlenose, common dolphins, pacific white-sided dolphins, humpbacks, grays, 2 late blue whale sightings, fin whales, seals, and sea lions. Whew! That’s a lot of stuff.

Scarlett and a Breaching Minke! | James S.

Scarlett and a Breaching Minke!

Even though the air is getting cooler on the water, we’re still seeing plenty of life on our whale watches right now. There have been a number of humpback sightings (4 in one trip!) and we even got to see Scarlett again. If you have been keeping track of our blogs, Scarlett was seen a couple of months ago with a lot of red lice on their body.
