Hello everyone! It’s been a great time out in our local waters this month so far. The ocean breeze is amazing when you want to get away from the inland heat. Our sightings for the past couple weeks have been pretty varied, we’ve seen a few blue whales, followed the same two humpbacks for days, and are welcoming our new set of whale ID interns.

Six years have passed since “Little Orphan Ollie” first came to the Aquarium of the Pacific and I again became an Otter Pop to a precocious little sea otter pup.

When you visit the Aquarium, one of the first exhibits to catch your eye is Tropical Pacific Preview. This exhibit transports you to a shallow reef where brightly colored corals pop against a plain backdrop, while a royal blue tang fish weaves in and out of the water.

The return of the pacific white-sided dolphin appears to have begun! The white sided dolphins we see follow temperature trends during their migration, either near shore to off shore, or north – south patterns.

On one of our recent whale watches our staff were able to observe a curious behavior from a blue whale spotted near the boat. At first glance it would appear to look like potential bubble net behavior.
