Our whale watches in the last couple of weeks have been PACKED with animal sightings and surprises! Every whale watch experience is unique, and every trip has it’s own exciting moments. But recently, we have had many exciting moments because of the amount of life that has been in the water.

Hugh's Aquarium Views Video number 12
It looks a campy alien monster out of a 1960s Irwin Allen sci-fi TV show. It’s tentacle-like arms curling in and out to ambush unsuspecting prey. The eerily pulsating membrane of its body announces that its poor victims are being devoured. Yet it’s not science fiction. It’s a creature called a basket star and you can see it in person at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

What is a Bryde’s whale? Well, they are a very rare sight to see in our waters and have only been sighted a handful of times. On top of the amazing days we have had on the water with multiple blues, fins, and humpbacks, this was an exciting adventure for whale nerds alike!

If ever an animal’s name matched its personality it’s Harpo the sea lion. Harpo has a way of channeling his inner Marx Brother and stamping his own unique style to everything he does. Case in point is how he decided to use the sea lion selfie stick.
