As the Aquarium of the Pacific celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008, 1.5 million guests discovered special exhibits, programs, and highlighted animals throughout the galleries. In 2008 the Aquarium of the Pacific continued its upward trend in attendance, guest experience, economic impact, efficient operations, and sustainable practices. Key highlights of the year included in the annual report are below.
- The Aquarium of the Pacific was one of the only aquariums in the country to show an increase in attendance for seven consecutive years in 2008.
- The Aquarium ranked as the second-most-attended non-profit cultural institution in the Los Angeles region and the fourth-most-attended aquarium in the United States.
- The Aquarium maintained one of the highest-rated overall guest experiences among the nation’s top 10 aquariums, ranking high in entertainment, value for admission, and employee courtesy.
- The Aquarium had an annual economic impact of more than $150 million on Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura, and Orange Counties.
- The Aquarium continued to rank as one of the country’s most diverse major aquariums, attracting an audience that is reflective of its community.
